The profiterole is really nice, tiramisu is light (not too sweet).
Probably one of the best strawberry cakes in town. It’s well balanced, good texture, and if you have problem with sweetness this is perfect, just on point. Little detail but not less important, the water, when usually you just found tap water everywhere, they choose to make the difference with a fresh lemon inside. Find quality here. Come back for sure.
Best cakes I ever tried in Melbourne! Love, love their strawberry cream cake!! The cake was so soft and full of texture, the cream was very smooth and not too sweet. Their tiramisu was also very nice too! Must try their egg custard tart next time. Their coffee is the cheapest among other Melbourne cafes but very good too, both taste and presentation. Highly recommended this place!!
Delicious and unique desserts. We tried the mandarin tart and strawberry cake and enjoyed that it wasn’t super sweet and was really light and enjoyable. Relatively good prices considering other Melb cafes tbh. Service was great, super pleasant folks - however indoor seating is limited, they do have outdoor sit down tables too though so it’s a nice date/catch up spot.
During the two weeks I worked in the city, Sweet Canteen became my happy place. Every break, I’d come in for my coffee or tea, and every time I was greeted with warmth, smiles, and genuine kindness. Ms Wang is an absolute gem. From the laughter to the moment we were literally dancing in the café, she created an atmosphere that felt joyful, welcoming, and full of heart. Her and all the girls who work there are nothing short of amazing — attentive, friendly, and truly lovely people who make you feel seen and valued. I was also gifted a heart-shaped tiramisu cake, and wow — hands down the best tiramisu I’ve ever had. So rich, perfectly balanced, and made with love. It was such a beautiful, thoughtful gesture that I’ll never forget. Thank you, Ms Wang, and thank you to the incredible team at Sweet Canteen. You turned simple coffee breaks into cherished memories. I’ll always come back whenever I’m in the city 🤍
I have extra time to drop in to try the Portuguese egg tart today, it was very tasty, best when served lukewarm. Staff were friendly too!
Really nice cakes, not too sweet which I like. The sponge is soft and light. Egg tarts are good too, just a bit oily. Would come back again.

Was walking past yesterday with my partner looking for some sweets and ended up trying the egg tarts and one of their puff pastry desserts. Both were honestly so good!!! The egg tarts are flaky and not overly sweet, with a really smooth filling. (Not gonna lie, it's way better than the other tarts store near the tram stop - not naming it here) The cream puff pastry dessert (sorry I forgot the name) was also amazing!!! light, layered perfectly. Such a lovely little find and definitely somewhere I would come back to again! (Really wanna try their strawberry cake (I think thats what it looks like) next time!) Highly recommended!!!
